Mandarin is part of the City of Jacksonville, whose roughly 253,000 detached homes have a median build year of 1986, and Mandarin holds a lot of that stock: long, single-story brick and stucco ranch houses on deep lots south of I-295 between San Jose Boulevard and the river. Two things shape a Mandarin design. The rooflines are low and long, which makes them quick and safe to light and means a lot of footage for the money — a single-story ranch often has more feet of roofline than a two-story house of the same size. And the trees: massive live oaks draped in Spanish moss, which look extraordinary with warm-white trunk wraps and the lower limbs lit. Pines and oaks also fill gutters, so we clear the line where the clips go before we hang. Beauclerc and Loretto streets lit oak by oak are some of the prettiest drives in the city in December.

Christmas lights in Mandarin: FAQ

Do you light live oaks in Mandarin?

Yes — trunk wraps and the lower limbs. Oaks are priced per tree by size, $75 to $250, and very large canopies are quoted after we see them.

My roofline is long but low — is that expensive?

Seasonal lights are priced by the foot, $5 to $8, so a long ranch roofline costs more feet but is fast to hang from a ladder. Most Mandarin homes land between $900 and $2,000.

Will the clips damage my gutters?

No. Clips slide onto the gutter lip or under the shingle edge and come off at takedown with nothing left behind. No nails or screws.

Do you serve all of Mandarin?

Yes — from San Jose Boulevard to the river and from I-295 south to Julington Creek, including Beauclerc, Loretto and Mandarin Station.
